QIAOSHI Bastion

Engineered Force Protection

hesco bastion

Based in the HeiBei China, QIAOSHI Bastion has been manufacturing Concertainer units since 2003. The Concertainer unit has been acknowledged as the most significant development in field fortification since the Second World War. It has gained a reputation as a key component in military hardware and is the benchmark in force protection.

Each unit has been developed to provide the optimum solution for a wide range of protective and structural requirements. They are available in a variety of different sizes and delivery systems.

Concertainer units have been used for protection in many countries around the world including Afghanistan, Iraq, Bosnia, Kosovo, Yemen, Sri Lanka, Jordan, UAE and Turkey. Many military organisations currently use Concertainer units including the US Army, USMC, USAF, NATO and the United Nations.

Maintaining the integrity of its product design is paramount for HESCO Bastion, and in order to ensure this, the company works closely with many of the world’s leading testing authorities.

In addition to the standard Concertainer unit, HESCO continues to enlarge its product portfolio of protection products in direct response to customer requirements:

Concertainer Units

Concertainer units enable the construction of rapid and efficient engineered fortification with dependable protection characteristics, and can be used in a wide variety of configurations.

The Concertainer unit is a multi-cellular wall system manufactured from welded Zinc-Alu coated steel wire mesh and joined with vertical, helical coil joints. The units are lined with a heavy-duty non-woven polypropylene geotextile.

Available in a variety of sizes and delivered flat-packed on pallets or stacked vertically inside a RAID container, units can be easily extended and joined using the provided joining pins and filled with available material using minimal manpower and commonly available equipment. Units are given the Mil prefix to differentiate them from their civil market counterparts.

RAID (Rapid In-theatre Deployment)

RAID has been designed to reduce the logistical burden of supporting force protection missions on expeditionary operations, such as the construction of forward operating and patrol bases.

RAID utilises a specially designed and engineered container to provide significant increases in the quantity of Concertainer units that can be transported in a 20 container footprint. The container conforms to all ISO stacking and transportation standards.

This unique delivery system gives a reduction in the requirement for valuable manpower and equipment during the execution phase of the mission.

Deployment in the field is simplistic, and can be carried out using in-service equipment.

The unit being deployed is connected into a length of 2 x 203m (for RAID 1) or 1 x 333m (for RAID 7). However, these lengths can be easily split, providing excellent flexibility during construction. Corners can be formed, more units can be joined, and gaps in the wall can be created (for entry points etc). Splitting units also provides the benefit of only deploying what is required – the remainder is left inside the secure RAID container for future use.

HAB 1 (HESCO Accommodation Bunker)

HESCO have also worked on reducing the logistics burden of providing protected accommodation, particularly in the harsh environments experienced by those living in FOBs and patrol bases, where protection against IDF weapons is paramount.

HAB is designed to house up to 8 personnel, providing each with a personal space measuring 2m x 2m.

HAB has sidewalls of specifically developed Concertainer units and a lightweight aluminium roof. The bunker has been tested extensively against the effects of IDF weapons. Two HAB 1 unts can be shipped inside one standard 20ft ISO container, and can also be deployed by parachute.

HAB 2 (HESCO Accommodation Bunker)

HAB 2 is a logical development of the HAB concept, and offers improved level of protection for the occupants. HAB 2 is completely reusable and has been designed to give an increased interior height and a more useable interior space.

HLBR (HESCO Lightweight Bunker Roof)

HESCO have developed the HESCO Lightweight Bunker Roof (HLBR), a rapid and easily erectable lightweight roof specifically designed to provide protection against IDF weapons. The roof can be built on almost any walls capable of taking the load that the roof will impose upon it.

HLBR has a number of uses such as the roof for COLPRO, for living accommodation, or overhead cover for ammunition and explosive stacks. It is used in situations where there is a requirement for protection typically satisfied using timber or steel roofs. Shipped in a single wooden crate, HLBR has a maximum span of 3.3m and can be built by 4 men in around 5 hours.

Personnel & Material Bunker Sets

These bunker sets have been developed to utilise forty and twenty foot ISO containers. Walls are constructed using specifically adapted Mil 1 Concertainer units to give a protective wall thickness of in excess of 1m. The roof design provides 0.6m of overhead cover. Material bunkers provide access from one end of the bunker, while personnel bunkers provide access from both ends. Although a container is not absolutely necessary, and is not provided with the kit, it will provide enhanced protection, by acting as a spall liner.

Guard Post

The components of this set provide a small protective emplacement with 0.6m walls and 0.45m of overhead cover. Embrasure (firing/observation point) forms are included in the set as are roof joists and roofing material.

The interior space is 1.2m by 1.8m, with 1.98m of headroom. The complete set is delivered on a single pallet and is typically constructed in around 3 hours.

HRSFTM (HESCO Re-deployable Security Fence)

The HRSF unit has been developed by HESCO in order to provide a rapidly erectable anti-climb fence that requires no special tools or training, no digging in of fence posts and can be re-deployed with limited effort. Available in three heights; 2.4m, 3.1m and 3.6m, the HRSF unit has an anti-climb front face and will withstand light vehicle attack.

Flood prevention the easy way

Water flows from high areas to low. In the case of a major flood, this process can be slow and massively destructive or, according a group of Thai technical experts,Thailand tries to help companies, as floods spread-Barbed Wire, it can be quick and relatively painless.

The Thailand Underground and Tunnelling Group has suggested the government invest around 200 billion baht to build a 100km-long tunnel under the eastern section of the outer ring road to prevent future flooding in and around the capital.

Suchatvee Suwansawat,What comes after the flood-hesco, TUTG chairman, yesterday said the proposed tunnel should be built from Bang Pa-in in Ayutthaya to Samut Prakan province where the water would empty into the Gulf of Thailand. It could be completed in two years.

The tunnel would be designed as a double-deck underground structure, called a multi-service flood tunnel system,Tunnelling toward a city with no more flood woes-雷诺护垫,钢格板吊顶, and would also be equipped with hydropower generators for power production, field fences, Assoc Prof Suchatvee said.

The upper deck would be used as a road under normal conditions when there were no floods or during minor and moderate flooding.

The lower deck would be used as a flood drain during normal situations.

During major floods, the upper deck would be closed to traffic and turned into a floodway to help speed up drainage of run-off.

Assoc Prof Suchatvee said a similar system should also be considered for the western part of Bangkok.

Large tunnels would be practical, more effective and thus the best solution to prevent major flooding over the long run.

Prasong Tarachai, former president of the Engineering Institute of Thailand said the underground flood prevention tunnel system should be built from Nakhon Sawan.

He also suggested integrating 20 state agencies involved in the water management system and creating a more accurate water information system.

“City planning should be revised to include floodways, barbed wire mesh,” he said.

Philippines searches for missing after typhoon kills 500

Wasi, downgraded to a tropical storm with gusts of up to 80 km per hour (50 miles per hour), is now hovering 60 km (40 miles) west of the southwestern city of Puerto Princesa and is expected to move out of Philippine waters later on Sunday.

Carmelita Pulosan, 42, said she and eight family members and neighbours survived by sitting on top of the tin roof of their house as it drifted miles into the open sea after floodwaters swept through their village.

They were rescued by a passing cargo ship.

“It’s difficult to be certain on those missing,” Gwendolyn Pang,Bridge Protection System, secretary-general of the PNRC, told Reuters. “The floods washed out whole houses and families inside. It’s possible entire families are dead and no one is reporting them missing.”

“The current was very strong. God is really good to us. He saved my family,” she said. Only one 3-storey building was left standing in their village, hexagonal wire meshes, Pulosan said.

The Philippine National Red Cross estimated 497 were killed in eight provinces in the southern Mindanao region, with more than 100 still missing.

“There was a deafening sound followed by a rush of water. We found ourselves in the river and the current took us out to the sea,不锈钢生丝,” Pulosan, from Cagayan de Oro, told Reuters.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said the United States, a major ally of the Philippines, was ready to assist Philippine authorities.

Disaster and health officials were struggling to deal with the scores of bodies that have been recovered. Some have been stacked one on top of another in local mortuaries.

(Reuters) – Rescuers searched for more than 100 people still missing in the southern Philippines on Sunday after flash floods and landslides swept houses into rivers and out to sea, killing almost 500 people in areas ill-prepared to cope with deadly storms.

Mindanao island, welded wire mesh distributor, the southernmost in the Philippines, is a mineral-rich region that also produces rice and corn but is not normally on the path of an average 20 typhoons that hit the Southeast Asian country each year.

The latest report by the state disaster agency said 327 people had been killed and 274 were missing.

The cities of Cagayan de Oro and nearby Iligan on Mindanao island were worst hit when Typhoon Wasi slammed ashore while people slept late on Friday and early Saturday, sending torrents of water and mud through villages and stripping mountainsides bare.

Typhoons normally strike the central Visayas region and the southern tip or the eastern part of Luzon, the main island in the north.

Thailand’s top golfer Thongchai Jaidee on Thursday defended the money being used to lure star players to next week’s Thai Golf Championships, saying the event can help raise funds for victims of recent flooding.

“I think this event can bring attention to Thailand and by having these stars here we can help a lot of the charities raise money,Winning after the storm Learnings from other disasters-拦石网,” said Thongchai on the sidelines of the UBS Hong Kong Open.

“Without the sponsors’ money we don’t have a tournament and then players don’t get to play. These sorts of events promote sports but they also can help charities which is what my country needs right now.”

Thongchai was speaking a day after countryman Thaworn Wiratchant accused the Thai government of wasting money on luring big-name international players to the inaugural event in Bangkok next week.

“While it might be a good idea to show the rest of the world that Thailand is back to normal, I think the money could have been used to helping the thousands of people affected by the floods,金網,” Thaworn said.

Thailand’s worst floods in half a century devastated vast areas of the kingdom and left more than 600 people dead.

An estimated US$5 million has reportedly been added to the Thai event by state-owned companies, and world No 2 Rory McIlroy, world No 3 Lee Westwood and Major winner Darren Clarke have all signed up.

The Thai Golf Championship is donating money raised from ticket sales to help support flood relief.

And Thongchai, a two-time winner of the Asian Tour of Merit, said he was also donating personal items, including clubs, shoes and shirts.

Press Statement of

Her Excellency Ms. Yingluck Shinawatra

Prime Minister of Thailand

at the Joint Press Conference with His Excellency Mr. Ban Ki-moon,

Secretary-General of the United Nations,

Purple Room, Government House, 16 November 2011

Good afternoon, Ladies and Gentlemen of the Media,

It is a great pleasure and honour for me to welcome the Secretary General to Thailand once again as guest of the Royal Thai Government,Flood Lines,UTCC Q1 growth hinges on post-flood measures-HESCO, and to congratulate him on his re-election as Secretary General for a second term.

Thailand – UN Relations

We discussed the long and productive relations between Thailand and the United Nations. I re-assured the Secretary General that Thailand values our position as a hub for UN agencies in the region, and we will continue to fully support the activities and work of such agencies.

I also underscored the importance that Thailand attaches to strengthening our partnership with the United Nations in all of its three pillars-security, development and human rights.

Flood Situation in Thailand

The Secretary General expressed his interest and concern for the flood situation in Thailand, for which I expressed my appreciation. I emphasized that the Government is working around the clock to helping relieve all flood-affected people in cooperation with the public and private sectors. We are also formulating a long term policy on water management to prevent any future repetition of this crisis.

The Government has promptly transferred, with much appreciation, the relief items contributed by UN agencies to assist flood victims. On this occasion, I would like to, once again, thank the United Nations and His Excellency the Secretary General for the continued support and contributions made to the Thai people to help alleviate this crisis.

ASEAN – UN relations

Thailand fully supports and looks forward to even closer cooperation between ASEAN and the UN. We expect to adopt a Joint Declaration on the ASEAN-UN Comprehensive Partnership at the ASEAN-UN Summit in Bali later this week. I also mentioned ASEAN’s aspiration to play a more proactive role on global issues in international fora in which we hope to receive continued support from the UN.

Other Issues

We also discussed many other issues of mutual concern, including peacekeeping, health,BAAC, CP to help farmers lift output-hesco, and the situation in the region. I reiterated Thailand’s support for the UN’s efforts in promoting international peace and security, particularly through peacekeeping and peace building, in which Thailand has deployed troops and police in various UN operations around the world. I also underscored the great importance that the Thai Government attaches to the issue of health, particularly for vulnerable groups such as women and children.

Closing

In sum, our fruitful discussions reflect the traditionally close relationship between Thailand and the UN which we will continue to nurture.

I now give the floor to His Excellency Mr. Ban Ki-moon, Secretary General of the United Nations

Originally designed for use on beaches and marshes for erosion and flood control, the Hesco Bastion quickly became a popular security device in the 1990s.

Assembly
Assembling the Hesco Bastion entails unfolding it and (if available) using a front end loader to fill it with sand, dirt or gravel. The placement of the barrier is generally very similar to the placement of a sandbag barrier or earth berm except that room must generally be allowed for the equipment used to fill the barrier. The main advantage of Military Barrier, strongly contributing to their popularity with troops and flood fighters, is the quick and easy setup. Previously, people had to fill sandbags,黑铁丝, a slow undertaking, with one worker filling about 20 sandbags per hour. Workers using Military Barrier and a front end loader can do ten times the work of those using sandbags.
The Hesco Barrier come in a variety of sizes. Most of the barriers can also be stacked, and they are shipped collapsed in compact sets. Example dimensions of typical configurations are 46″ x 36″ x 32 (1.4m x 1.1m x 9.8m) to 7 x 5 x 100 (2.1m x 1.5m x 30m).
A new system of Hesco Bastion developed specially for military use is deployed from a container,Flood Prevention technology-wire mesh, which is dragged along the line of ground where the barrier is to be formed, unfolding up to several hundred meters of barrier in minutes, ready for filling with soil by a backhoe.

Protection
Filled with sand, 60 centimetres (24 inches) of barrier thickness will stop rifle bullets and shell fragments. It takes 1.5 metres (five feet) of thickness to prevent penetration by a rocket propelled grenade round. Approximately 1.2 metres (four feet) of thickness provides protection against most car bombs.

Concerns, floodwaters rise in Bangkok-barbed wire mesh

The death toll from Thailand’s worst flooding in half a century reached 506 Sunday as floodwaters inched southward toward downtown Bangkok, the interior ministry said. With evacuations already affecting at least 11 of Bangkok’s 50 districts, its governor, Sukhumbhand Paribatra, on Sunday expressed fresh concerns about even-worse flooding due to malfunctions at 14 flood gates in western Bangkok, the state-run MCOT news agency reported. Moreover, the city’s flood relief operations headquarters (which has already been moved once) is now surrounded by water. Even so,Thailand tries to help companies, as floods spread-镀铜电焊网, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said that there are no plans currently to move it, according to MCOT. Hints of seeming normalcy — like all 18 subway stations operating normally, despite some station entrances being closed — clashed against continuing concerns about the situation and the government’s ability to handle it. “I don’t know what the government is doing, welded wire mesh panel,” said resident Chaiwat Rattanawitthayapol, as he shopped for water pumps and sandbags to protect his home. “They promised that water would be diverted to the east and west. … Why is water coming closer and closer to (the) central part? I don’t see any improvement.” At the sprawling 27-acre Chatuchak Weekend Market, only about 10% of the booths were open. Some merchants reduced prices to draw shoppers. “There are a lot less people (who came) today. … People are afraid of flooding,” one shop owner told CNN. Meanwhile, Arun Sricharoon, the market’s director, kept a close eye on the approaching waters. A 2-foot (60-centimeter) wall around the market should help prevent flooding, he said. “I think the wall is still able to handle the flood,” he said. “But if water spills into the market,341,000 flood-hit workers re-employed-Gabion Box, and if it affects the safety of shop owners, then we will announce the (market’s) closure.” Across the country, the flooding — now in its third month — has affected 25 of Thailand’s 76 provinces. A Thailand Disaster and Mitigation Department report, barbed wire mesh, issued Sunday and reported by MCOT, estimated about 3.1 million people have been affected and 4 million acres of farmland have been damaged.
